Matthew

Many concerns are facing the citizens of the United States of America, not the least of which are drug abuse and homelessness. While several factors can contribute to the hardships that befall individuals faced with such predicaments. It often seems that these obstacles are symptoms of a larger issue. There is no quick fix for an ailing segment of any population. Fortunately, there are organizations willing to engage these communities in efforts to provide them with avenues to access basic needs. While assisting an artist in residence, I was afforded an opportunity to engage with individuals in a dynamic context. With consent, I was embedded with, and photographed Matthew, a continuing intravenous drug user. Using photography I aspired to capture the humanity of those that are afflicted with such conditions.
